Are Marble Countertops Right For My Kitchen?

Nov 9, 2016

There are many considerations when choosing furniture and designs for your home. Color, design, and texture are but a few of these details. When deciding on countertops to compliment the furniture and cabinets throughout your home, it’s important to weigh out the pros and cons that come with each countertop material you might consider using.

Sandy Beyer, the senior designer for Kitchen Kraft, takes countertops into huge consideration while laying out designs for her clients. One of the most commonly used materials Kitchen Kraft’s clients choose for their countertops is marble.

I need to have a very serious talk with my clients when they are considering using marble for kitchen countertop material.  I want my clients to understand all of the pros and cons that come with them.

Pros and Cons of Marble Countertops

Marble can make a great addition to a kitchen’s design. Marble countertops can single-handedly turn any “okay” looking room into an elegant layout. Its textures and array of colors add contrast while tying together perfectly with almost any color cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. However, while marble has many benefits, many people forget to take into consideration the imperfections that come along with the material.

Marble countertops can also get a little etched up or worn with use, over the years. This is perfectly fine with many people and, with considering this, marble may be the right material for you. If you’d like a perfect gloss all the time, then perhaps other materials may be a better fit.  Ultimately, you can either embrace the natural age and patina that will eventually occur with use over time, or you can expect maintenance to keep your marble looking fresh and new in your beautiful kitchen.
